Suruç Co-Mayor Çevik released from prison 2020-06-23 15:17:21 URFA - Suruç Co-Mayor Hatice Çevik who was replaced by a trustee, was released from prison following the second hearing of the case. Çevik was accused of 'being a member of an illegal organization'. The second hearing of the lawsuit filed against Urfa Suruç Municipality Co-Mayor Hatice Çevik, who was dismissed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and replaced by a trustee, was held in Urfa 2nd High Criminal Court. Çevik attended the hearing via the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS) from Tarsus Women's Closed Prison. Her lawyers Ahmet Ceylan, İsmail Bülbül and Müslüm Baran were present at the hearing.   Çevik denied the accusations and stated that the claims against her was made to appoint a trustee to her office. Çevik stated that there are no concrete evidence against her in her file and requested her release, as did her lawyers.   The court decided her release. The next hearing was postponed to October 27.
