Prison sentence for the Editor-in-Chief of Özgürlükçü Demokrasi Newspaper 2020-10-15 13:45:00   İSTANBUL - İshak Yasul, Editor-in-Chief of Özgürlükçü Demokrasi Newspaper transferred to the SDIF, was sentenced to 10 months in prison.   The final hearing of the trial of Özgürlükçü Demokrasi Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Yılmaz Yıldız and Managing Editor İshak Yasul, which was closed by a Decree Law (Decree) and transferred to the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (SDIF), was held at the Istanbul 26th High Criminal Court. While the journalists on trial did not attend the hearing, their attorney Özcan Kılıç was present.   Explaining its opinion on the merits at the hearing, the prosecution demanded that Yasul be punished for 'printing and publishing an illegal organization's publications'. Stating that the allegations do not constitute a crime, Lawyer Özcan Kılıç requested his client to be acquitted.    Deciding to separate the file for Yılmaz Yıldız, the court sentenced İshak Yasul to 10 months in prison for "printing and publishing an illegal organization's publications". The court did not reprieve the sentence.
