291 thousand 546 people in prison in Turkey

	ANKARA - According to the data announced by TUIK, the number of people held in prisons increased by 10.1 percent on December 31, 2019 compared to the same date of 2018.  The total number of people held in prison reached 291,546.

	Turkey Statistical Institute (TUIK) has announced the 2019 Prison Statistics data. According to the data announced by TUIK; the number of people held in prisons increased by 10.1 percent on December 31, 2019 compared to the same date in 2018, and reached 291,546. It was stated that 84.1 percent of the people held in prisons were convicts and 15.9 percent were prisoners.

	 

	Every year the number of people in the falling penal institutions per one hundred thousand people in Turkey as of December 31, while 163 in 2010, in 2018 increased as the number of the years 323 and stated that reached 351 in 2019. In the continuation of the statement, it was stated that 430 out of every hundred thousand people aged 12 and over in 2019 entered prison.
