Gergerlioğlu: Boğaziçi students subjected to strip search 2021-01-06 13:58:33 ANKARA - HDP Kocaeli MP Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu stated that the Boğaziçi University students who were detained by the police for protesting the appointment of a rector have been subjected to strip search.   Gergerlioğlu said: "This is a regime of law decrees. This regime has handcuffed the gates of the university. The government is trying to take control of the universities instead of allowing the universities to be autonomous."   Underlining that AKP's Bulu being appointed to the university is the latest example of this, Gergerlioğlu said: "This is not a high school. This is a university. Ofcourse the students will react to the rector that was appointed due to his political identity. This is a constitutional right."   STUDENTS WERE STRIP SEARCHED   Gergerlioğlu said: "Students have protested the appointment of a rector. Scores of them were taken into custody with raids on their homes. So what happens? These all show that we live in a police state. The real crime is committed by the Governorship of İstanbul which violates a constitutional right just like a bully. The students detained yesterday were subjected to strip search. All of these shouldn't be happening."
