Students campaing against trustees 2021-02-22 17:18:01 İSTANBUL - University Solidarity Networks that launched a campaign called 'We're all down with the rest', called for a fight against the trustees.   Making a statement at the İstanbul Medical Chamber as the network, one of the students, Lizge Biter, read the statement. Underlining that the protests against Bulu is a sparkle of resistance, Biter said: "The problem is a lot bigger than if this is a legitimate appointment. The problem is that the government is trying to supress the universities into being in line with the government rather than letting the universities be places where the students can exist with all their identities creating science freely."   'WE ARE RESPONDING'   Explaining that the defamation and lynching campaigns against everyone who did not remain silent to the appointment of the trustee rector is useless, Biter said solidarity platforms were formed during the resistance among many universities and those already exist was strengthened. Biter said: "We are responding to the attacks of the government and pro-government media with our fight and the solidarity between us." Biter said they did not want an academy surrounded by supporters of the government and campuses that have become the backyards of the political power.   Underlining that the power of their demand stems from their righteousness, Biter said: "We don't want to be exploited by studying and working at the same time. We do not want this occupying mentality in our campuses that appoints trustees to municipalities and ignores the will of the Kurdish people. We do not want the police, that beats the resisting workers and barricaded the  women on March 8, in our campuses."   FIGHT FOR TOMORROW   Stating that the trustee appointed to Boğaziçi University is not the first and won't be the last trustee appointed to a university, Biter called for a joint struggle to claim their voices in the universities and to step up the demand for scientific education and build a free future.
