Kars Co-Mayor to remain in prison

	KARS - Kars Municipality co-mayor Şevin Alaca, who was dismissed from office by the AKP-MHP government and replaced by a trustee, remains in prison after court opposed her release.

	 

	Kars Municipality Co-mayor Şevin Alaca, who was dismissed from office by AKP-MHP and replaced by a state-appointed trustee, was arrested on 8 October 2020. The second hearing of her trial was held on Thursday at Kars 2nd High Criminal Court. Alaca stood trial on charges of "membership of an illegal organization". Alaca attended the hearing from Diyarbakır Women's Closed Prison via the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS).

	 

	Speaking at the hearing, Alaca’s lawyers demanded the release of her client considering the period of detention.

	 

	The court, however, decided to keep Alaca in prison.

	 

	The next hearing will be on 6 April.
