Silence in Diyarbakır following attack on Diyarbakır 8th Main Jet Command 2021-05-19 12:16:11 DİYARBAKIR - According to the claims, the air stike left a large hole in the runway in Diyarbakır 8th Main Jet Base Command, where an air strike was carried out. Fighter jets which lift off from the runway everyday at 11.00 did not take off from the jet base command.    The silence that started in Diyarbakır with the curfew that started yesterday at 21:00 as part of the pandemic measures, was broken by two separate explosions at the 2nd Tactical Air Force Command's 8th Main Jet Base at 00:30 at night. Along with the explosions heard from the whole of the city, there was intense traffic of ambulances, firefighters and armored vehicles. It was almost immediately understood that the explosion was an air attack against the 8th Main Jet Base Command.    CONVOY OF AMBULANCES   Citizens residing in the buildings around the base stated that they heard two explosions and gunshots, and that after the attack, ambulances and fire trucks entered the base as a convoy with sirens.   WARNING TO TURN THE LIGHTS OFF   It was stated that after the explosion, all the lights at the base were turned off, and a warning was made to the buildings accross the 8th Main Jet Base Command from the armored police vehicles that were transferred to the region to turn their lights off.   STATEMENT OF STATE OFFICIALS   The Ministry of Interior, Diyarbakır Governorate and the Ministry of Defense repeatedly announced that "an attempt was made to attack a military facility in Diyarbakır with 2 model planes and the model planes were neutralized", but no information was shared about whether there was any damage to the air base.    CLAIM THAT EXPLOSION LEFT A LARGE HOLE ON THE RUNWAY   According to the claims, the explosion left a large hole on the runway of the Diyarbakır 8th Main Jet Base. It drew attention that the fighter jets that lift off from the runway, did not lift off today. While intensive security measures were taken at the base enterance, it was stated that phone signals were being examined.   In the video shared by a user named @merkezbanks on Twitter, the sound of an explosion is heard after a drone was flying over the base.
