Constitutional Court rules Gergerlioğlu's arrest is a violation 2021-07-01 16:00:14   ANKARA - Having evaluated the application of HDP's Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, Constitutional Court ruled that the arrest of Gergerlioğlu is a violation.   The Constitutional Court (AYM) has concluded the individual application of HDP member Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, whose status as an MP was stripped of. The Constitutional Court decided that Gergerlioğlu's "right to be elected and to engage in political activity" and his "right to personal freedom and security" were violated.   Gergerlioğlu applied to the Constitutional Court against the decision to strip him of his status as an MP. The application was sent to the Constitutional Court on June 9.    WHAT HAPPENED?   Gergerlioğlu's status as an MP was stripped of on grounds that he shared a news article back in 2016 in Twitter. Gergerlioğlu started a 'Justice Watch' at the parliament, refusing to leave the parliament. Gergerlioğlu who was removed from the grounds by the police continued the Justice Watch at his home. Gergerlioğlu was detained and sent to Sincan Prison on April 2.     Gergerlioğlu later had applied to the Constitutional Court for the annulment of the decision.
