9 years 9 months prison sentence to journalist İbrahim Karakaş 2021-08-12 14:28:30   ADANA - Yeni Yaşam Newspaper employee İbrahim Karakaş was sentenced to 9 years and 9 months in prison.   The final hearing of the case against Yeni Yaşam Newspaper reporter İbrahim Karakaş who was arrested on November 6, 2020 was held today at Adana 11th High Criminal Court. Karakaş who was imprisoned pending trial attended the hearing via Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS) from Adana Kürkçüler F Type Closed Prison. His lawyer Tugay Bek was present in the courtroom.   Making his defense, Karakaş told that he was a journalist and he was not a member of any organizations. Adding that a confessor lied about him to save themselves, Karakaş denied all charge and demanded his acquittal.   Attorney Tugay Bek also stated that his client is not a member of any organization and demanded his acquittal. Repeating his opinion, the prosecutor of the case demanded Karakaş to be sentenced to prison with the accusation of 'being a member of a terrorist organization'.   Announcing its decision, the court board sentenced Karakaş to 9 years 9 months in prison with the accusation of 'being a member of a terrorist organization'. Karakaş will remain in prison.
