'Self-government is the right of Yazidis' 2021-12-15 13:10:14   NEWS CENTER - Protesting the Turkish aggression on Shengal, academics in the Federated Kurdistan Region said that self-government is the right of Shengal and Yazidis.   Protesting the Turkish aggression on Shengal, academics underlined that Shengal has the right to self-determination. Speaking to Rojnews, academics protested the silence of Iraq and government of Kurdistan region about the attacks on Shengal.   Koyê University English Department Lecturer Dr. Îlham Mecîd stated that Turkey is a dictatorial state and constantly attacks the Federated Kurdistan Region and Shengal and said, “Kurdish and Iraqi authorities should see the Yazidis and Shengal as their own people. It should not allow the invasion of Iraqi lands. The authorities choose to remain silent because of their political and personal interests."   'ATTACKS MUST BE CONDEMNED'   Koyê University History Department Lecturer Dr. Heyder Leşkerî stated that the government of the Federated Kurdistan Region has a wrong approach towards Shengal and the Yazidis and does not see them as their own people. Heyder Leşkerî said, “Turkey attacks Shengal every day because they see Yazidis and Shengal as a threat to their national policies. They see Shengal as an opposition to Turkey, but the Kurdistan Region and Iraq should condemn these interventions. Unfortunately, such an attitude is not displayed.”   'SILENCE IS SHAMEFUL'   Koyê University Kurdish Department Lecturer Dr. Hîwa Selam stated that the sovereignty of the lands of Iraq and the Federated Kurdistan Region is no more and said, “It is a shame that both governments remain silent in the face of these attacks. There are several reasons and there are agreements on the basis of these reasons, which is why they keep so quiet. Otherwise, there is no reason for them to remain silent. At a time when foreign warplanes arrive, the Kurdistan Region is bombed and no one is telling the attackers to stop. The will of the people of Shengal need to be taken into account. The construction process should continue until self-government and self-determination is achieved."
