The sit-in was launched on 9 March 2021 by Emine Şenyaşar, who lost her husband and two sons as a result of the attack carried out by AKP Deputy İbrahim Halil Yıldız's bodyguards and relatives, in the Suruç province of Urfa, on June 14, 2018. The family started the sit-in at the enterance of the courthouse.   Underlining that they have been subjected to all kinds of oppression for a year during the Justice Watch, Emine Şenyaşar called on the people to be in solidarity with the family on March 9. Emphasizing that they don't demand justice only for themselves, Şenyaşar said: "We are demanding justice for everyone for a year now. I will be here even if it takes another year. I will not leave this place before my son is released from prison. The real killers are walking free. How is this justice? Come and demand justice with us on March 9."   From their Twitter account the family shared the following message with a poster they prepared for March 9: "We can say we have justice the day this mother staging a sit-in at the doors of the courthouse gets justice."
