Call to Cudi Rally: Ecological assets are destroyed by war 2022-09-05 14:19:46   DİYARBAKIR - Mesopotamia Ecology Movement stated that ecological assets were destroyed by the practice of war, and called on people to join the Cudi Rally to be held on September 17.   Representatives of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK), Free Women's Movement (TJA), Democratic Regions Party (DBP), Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and Mesopotamia Ecology Movement,  held a press release with the slogan "We are marching against the destruction of war and the plunder of nature" against the ecological plunder in the region. The rally to Mount Cudi will be held on September 17.  DTK Co-chair Berdan Öztürk, DBP Co-Chair Saliha Aydeniz, HDP Ecology Commission Co-Spokesperson Naci Sönmez, HDP Diyarbakır Provincial Co-Chair Zeyat Ceylan and ecologists participated in the press release held at the Southeast Journalists Association in Diyarbakır's Yenişehir district. The Kurdish version of the joint statement was read by Mirad Bilgiç from the Mesopotamia Ecology Movement, and the Turkish version was read by Derya Akyol.   ECOLOGICAL DESTRUCTION AND WAR METHODS   Pointing out that the ecological destruction and war methods continue to be implemented in Kurdish cities, Akyol said: "The geography of Kurdistan has been exploited, its nature has been destroyed by the invaders thoughout history, and today, the genocide is being continued with more dirty war methods."   ECOSYSTEM IS BEING DESTROYED   Expressing that the AKP government's fascism has spread all over Turkey and gained momentum, Akyol said: "The attacks on our history, culture and nature have reached the most brutal dimensions, and the Kurdish people have been targeted by the policies pursued to destroy memory. As a result of war practices, an ecosystem is being destroyed by forest fires that have been going on systematically for years. Although the fires continue for days, no one intervenes, and citizens who want to intervene in the fire are prevented from doing so. The burned forests in Kurdistan are not covered in the press and social media due to racist policies and they are ignored by ecological organisations." Akyol said the destruction continues, especially in Şırnak and added, "Ecological assets are being destroyed by war policies. With these attacks which turned into pursuit of rent, the trees that are cut are transferred to other cities to be sold."   CALL TO CUDI RALLY   Stating that they will have a rally on the 17th of September against the ecological destruction, Akyol said: "As the people protecting their history, culture and values, we will meet at Cudi to stop the ecological destruction. Ecology is a whole with its society, forests, air and water. We call the women, the youth, the non-governmental organisations, political parties, associations, unions, chambers and all segments of society to come to Cizre to join us at the rally."
