Death fast continues in Maku Prison: Prisoners were put in cells 2022-11-10 16:10:16 WAN - It was stated that HDP Agirî Provincial General Assembly of parliament member Mehmet Birdal, who started a death fast in Maku Prison in Iran, and truck drivers Faruk Cansever and Mahmut Kandemir were put in cells to prevent them from communicating with the outside.   Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Agirî Provincial General Assembly of parliament member Mehmet Birdal, who was arrested in Iran where he went for trade, and truck drivers Faruk Cansever and Mahmut Kandemir, who are held in the same prison, have been going on a death fast for 10 days.   Stating that they were arrested unlawfully, 3 people started a death fast on November 1st against rights violations in prison. It was stated that 3 prisoners were exposed to serious human rights violations in prison.   BİRDAL AND KANDEMİR WERE PUT IN CELLS   Stating that the three prisoners, who were prevented from communicating with the outside, were put in cells one day after they started the death fast. It was stated that Birdal and Kandemir, the prisoners whose conditions were getting worse day by day, could no longer stand up.   BACKGROUND   Mehmet Birdal, who went to Iran for trade 15 months ago, was detained by the Iranian regime police. was sentenced to 16 years in prison on charges of "being a member of the PKK and PJAK", "aiding the PKK", "cooperating with enemy groups", "making propaganda for a terrorist organiSation" and "creating a threat to national security".   Mahmut Kandemir, who was arrested for having surgical catgut in the truck they were driving at the search point on the Iranian border, was sentenced to 6 months in prison and a fine of 5 billion 216 million Toman (approximately 16 million TL). Faruk Cansever, who was arrested on the same grounds, was fined approximately 3.5 million TL.   The prisoners started the death fast against their rights violations by sewing their lips on November 1.
