Journalist Özdemir: Commission decision is acceptance of chemical use 2022-11-17 15:37:17   NEWS CENTER - Stating that scientists should also take part in the commission established to investigate the use of chemicals in Iraq, Journalist Mervan Özdemir said: "The fact that the commission was established is the acceptance of the 'claims' that chemicals were used."   While Turkey's attacks on Zap, Avaşîn and Metîna regions are in their 7th month, chemical weapons and banned bombs are frequently used in the attacks. It was announced that a total of 2,837 banned bombs and chemical weapons were used in the 7-month period. The Iraqi parliament took action against the use of chemical weapons. A commission was established to investigate the use of chemicals in the parliament. It is stated that the established commission will investigate the regions where the attacks took place. Journalist Mervan Özdemir, who follows the developments in the region, pointed out that the commission's decision was taken after the condemnations.   'KDP PREVENTED INVESTIGATION'   Reminding that the delegations that came to the region for research were blocked by the KDP before, Özdemir said: "Many calls were made for the use of chemical weapons before, but they did not receive any response. The chemical has entered the public's agenda with the latest images. The use of chemical weapons did not come to the fore without such painful consequences. HPG has repeatedly called for research in the last two years but the calls were not answered. The KDP also prevented several institutions that responded to the calls from conducting investigations."   'WE WILL PURSUE THE TRUTH'   Stating that the decision to establish a commission was made due to the growing protests, Özdemir said: "The establishment of a new government in Iraq may have affected the use of chemical weapons on the agenda. This is the result of the Kurdish people's resistance to not accept this unscrupulousness and immorality. We should not expect that this commission will pursue the truth with great sensitivity in such a century when the cultures and identities of societies are sacrificed to the interests of nation states. It is vital that the society, independent institutions and organisations, and intellectuals who do not hesitate to speak the truth no matter what the cost, follow this commission because it is not certain that there will be no intervention in the commission when it comes to interests, and even that there will be no attempt to acquit the Turkish state. The establishment of the commission is the acceptance of the 'claim' of using chemical weapons. It is clear that chemical weapons were used. Now it is time to follow this commission and accept this fact. Relevant institutions, intellectuals and scientists who are sensitive to the issue should follow this commission and even be included in it.”
