Final declaration of the 'Freedom for Öcalan' conference announced 2023-03-02 11:09:33   NEWS CENTER – In the final declaration of the "Freedom for Öcalan" conference held in South Africa, a call was made for the release of Abdullah Öcalan and all prisoners.   The final declaration of the "Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, Peace for the World and Stability Conference" held in Cape Town, South Africa for two days has been announced.   In the declaration, it was noted that the fact that Abdullah Öcalan was not allowed to meet with his lawyers and family for two years constitutes a violation of international law, “As the current detention conditions in Turkey are inconsistent with the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (Nelson Mandela Rules), we call on the Turkish government to urgently facilitate the meeting of Mr. Abdullah Öcalan with his lawyers and family. The release of Abdullah Öcalan is of critical importance for the peace process in the Middle East, the declaration called on the Turkish government to immediately release Mr. Abdullah Öcalan and all other prisoners."   CALL AUTHORITIES IN AFRICA   The declaration also called on the South African government, the ruling ANC and all other political and progressive organizations to support the cause of the Kurdish people in their struggle for freedom, dignity, democracy and human rights. In the declaration, the African Government also called on SACP, COSATU and all progressive political and social formations to pressure the Syrian government to start talks with the Kurdish people.   'WE SHOULD STOP ATTACKS TOGETHER'   The statement continued: “We call on all solidarity organizations and the South African government to put pressure on the Turkish government to stop their continued and systematic attacks on Kurdish areas in northern and eastern Syria and northern Iraq, risking the lives of civilians and building and maintaining bases and outposts in these areas.”
