TJA Spokesperson sentenced to 3 years and 9 months in prison 2023-04-19 14:22:13 AMED- TJA Spokesperson Ayşe Gökkan was sentenced to 3 years and 9 months in prison for "willingly aiding the organization" due to the "Solution Tent" established in 2011.   In the case where the then Mayor of Nisêbîn Municipality Ayşe Gökkan was tried on charges of "willingly aiding a terrorist organization" for the establishment of a "Democratic Solution Tent" in the garden of Mitani Cultural Center belonging to the municipality in the Nisêbîn district of Mêrdîn(Mardin) in 2011, Gökkan was sentenced to prison. Gökkan was connected to the Sincan Women's Closed Prison via Audio-Visual System (SEGBİS) at the decision hearing of the case, which was reopened by the Supreme Court of Appeals after the 7 years and 6 months prison sentence given by Diyarbakır 9th High Criminal Court was overturned by the Supreme Court due to "disproportionateness". In his defense in Kurdish, Gökkan stated that the court has lost its impartiality since the beginning and that they have repeatedly asked a judge to reject it, and said: "I reject this court, its committee, its president, and even its clerk."   Stating that he sent a 20-page defense to the court, Gökkan said: "I had nothing else to add regarding the defense and so Jin, jiyan, azadi, cannot be tried."
