At least 100 people detained after the election in Şırnak 2023-06-12 12:59:43   ŞIRNAK - At least 100 people were detained in Şırnak after the election. HDP Cizîr District Co-Chair Mesut Nart said that the pressures were related to the election results.   Detentions and arrests continue unabated in Şırnak. After the elections held on May 14 and 28 May, detentions and arrests continued. At least 100 people were detained and some of them were arrested after the elections, most of them in Şırnak centre, Cizîr (Cizre) and Silopiya (Silopiya). In addition to these, Cudi and Nur neighborhoods of Cizîr have been under siege since May 14. While an armored vehicle is held in every street, gas bombs are frequently thrown in the neighborhood. Evaluating the events, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Cizîr District Co-Chair Mesut Nart said that the pressures were related to the election results.   'ŞIRNAK IS BLOCKADED'   Stating that the city is seen as a "test laboratory" and that special war policies have never stopped since the 2015-2016 period, Nart said: "Cizîr celebrated the 2023 Newroz with great enthusiasm and gave a clear message. We started the election work after Newroz. Our city is an important city for the Kurdish movement. The state knows this, so it resorts to arrests, repressions and detentions. Almost every year, raids against young people, women, institutions and political parties are carried out under the name of operations; however, the Kurdish people, political parties and institutions have become stronger. The Kurdish people have never kneeled. Since Newroz, the state has resorted to all means to distance us from our people."   Reminding that the Green Left Party received a record number of votes in the elections held in Şırnak and its districts, Nart said: "The neighborhoods and villages with high votes were raided. Despite all the obstacles, the region clearly showed their will in the elections. An armored vehicle has been placed on every street of Cizîr. Despite nothing, it randomly throws gas bombs at the neighborhoods. They did this frequently during the election process. We characterize the operations carried out in the last days as revenge for the election. The balance sheet of detentions and arrests after the election is at least 100, although the names of them are not known exactly.
