Demir: Abdullah Öcalan's physical freedom is a must 2023-06-21 13:08:27   AĞRI - Stating that a "dark future" was imposed on the peoples with the Imrali isolation, Green Left Party Agirî MP Nejla Demir said: "The physical freedom of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan should be ensured."   The isolation against PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who was held in İmralı Type F High Security Prison, where he was brought on February 15, 1999 with an international conspiracy, has turned into an absolute lack of communication since 2015, when the AKP turned back to the concept of war. The ban on lawyers, which was put into effect on July 27, 2011, has been systematically maintained for 12 years, even though 5 meetings were held in 2019. Abdullah Öcalan's family visit, which was limited to the periods when concerns about his health and safety conditions deepened, was similarly blocked. From the intermittent phone call of his brother Mehmet Öcalan on March 25, 2021, there has been no news of Abdullah Öcalan until today. All applications made by families and lawyers are rejected on the grounds of "disciplinary" penalties that have become de facto.   FEAR OF THE STATE   Evaluating the isolation system in Imrali, which has turned into a state of no news, Greens and Left Future Party (Green Left Party) Agirî MP Nejla Demir said: "The society wants to cut the ties with Abdullah Öcalan with isolation. Öcalan's democratic nation paradigm scares states that feed on plunder and war today. For this reason, they are deepening the isolation of Mr. Öcalan.”   THE BASIS OF MULTIPLE CRISES   Stating that the isolation of Imrali is at the root of the multiple crises that the country is going through, Demir said: “There is a Kurdish problem that we want to be resolved. In order for this problem to be resolved through democratic and peaceful means, Mr. Öcalan's ideas, opinion and perspective should be sought; therefore, the isolation must be ended as soon as possible. If all crises are to be resolved, Mr. Öcalan must be contacted again and the isolation must end."   'TORTURE ON ÖCALAN'   Stating that the isolation that started in Imrali has spread to all prisons and society, Demir said: “In international norms, the prisoner has certain rights regardless of his identity; however, these rights are not enforced in Turkey. There is tremendous lawlessness in every field. Even preventing him from meeting with his family needs to have an echo in the world because we do not know the conditions under which Mr. Öcalan is staying, it torture on Öcalan that we do not even know about his health.”   MA / Berivan Kutlu
