Sentenced with an over-age penalty: Releases after 30 years 2025-01-10 16:30:06   ANTALYA - Feridun Demir, who was sentenced to life imprisonment at the age of 17 in Adana, was released after 30 years of imprisonment.    Feridun Demir was arrested in Adana on 10 January 1995 when he was only 17 years old. Demir was subjected to severe torture in detention and was sentenced to life imprisonment on the charge of "being a member of an illegal organization and participating in its activities". During this period Demir was transferred to prisons in Adana, Konya, Ankara, Mersin and Ankara respectively.    Demir, who was last transferred to Antalya Type L Closed Prison, was released today after 30 years of imprisonment. His family members and many people welcomed Demir with flowers. Demir travelled to Adana with those who came to meet him.   LOST HIS FATHER WHEN HE WAS IN PRISON   Demir's father Veysi Demir lived in Marut (Dinlece) rural neighbourhood of Pirsûs (Suruç) district of Riha (Urfa). Demir, who had cancer, died on 7 October 2021, without seeing his imprisoned son whom he could not see for 15 years. Speaking to Mezopotamya Agency (MA) on 16 April 2021, father Veysi Demir stated that there is no justice and added, "Enough is enough, let them release my son". Demir's request to attend his father's funeral was not accepted.
