Martina Anderson: Leyla demands the law to be applied in İmralı 2019-02-20 13:25:45   DİYARBAKIR- Irish EP Deputy Martina Anderson who herself was imprisoned for 13 years and who said that she is very impressed by DTK Co-chair Leyla Güven, called on to the CPT and the European Council to take action, and said: " We will defend the rights of Mr. Öcalan"     Anderson who stated that they haven taken steps regarding the issue after their visit on January 13, said she visited for the second time when Güven was released. Anderson stated that preventing Öcalan from seeing his family and her attorneys is unlawful.       Anderson who stated that she is very worried about Güven's health, said: "I am very worried about Leyla's health. She is getting weaker.I am very impressed by her determination. 315 more prisoners are on a hunger strike with Leyla Güven. Her only demand from Europe is to apply pressure on Turkey to make them abide by their own laws. Her call to CPT and EC is the same. The European Union currently has defined Turkey as a country in unsafe conditions. UN has declared it to be a country in which law and democracy is not being implemented. Our call to the international arena; Leyla Güven's health  is in critical condition. So we have to stand up and make noise."     Anderson said: "Leyla Güven's demand is the implementation of human rights and international law here. I respect that demand. I urge Europe, the Council of Europe and the CPT to take action and enforce Turkey's own laws the Government of Turkey, I would like to be allowed to meet with Mr. Öcalan's lawyers and family."       Anderson stated that she spent 13 and a half years of his life in prison. She said:"13 and a half years later I was released during the peace process. That's why I know the situation in prisons. I know very well how the prisoners can play a powerful role in the peace process. Therefore, if a peace process is really to be carried out, it is enough for the state to apply their own laws. The same laws applied everywhere else, should be applied in İmralı.     Anderson stating that she was very impressed by Güven, said: "I was by her side. I tried to hold her hands. I was very worried and overwhelmed by feelings. It is a very impressing thing that a 55 year old women is on a hunger strike for a 70 year old man."   Anderson who stated that they will be the voice of the hunger strikersa and said: " As with all international law, we will defend this right of Mr. Öcalan as all prisoners have the right to meet with the lawyer and his family “
