Mahsun Güncel on hunger strike for 107 days kept in solitary confinement 2019-05-11 13:34:09 ADANA - Mahsun Günel who is on hunger strike for 107 days in Ödemiş Prison, continues the hunger strike in a cell for a month now. His mother Esma Günsel, stating that she was able to see his son for 2 minutes in the visit, said: "I am worried that he is in solitary confinement. He must be taken to his ward immediately." 42 year old artist Mahsun Günel from İzmir Ödemiş Type T Closed Prison, continues his hunger strike against isolation, in a cell for a month.Günsel was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months of jail time with the accusation of 'being a member of an illegal organization'.     Prison administration gave him a 6 months of visitation and communication ban and a 6 month solitary confinement penalty with the accusation of breaking the surveillence cameras in the cells.Günsel who is being kept in solitary confinement although he is on hunger strike is deteriorating fast.   Esma Günsel's request who went to the prison to visit her son on May 8, was rejected at first. Mother Günsel who stated that the guards kept her waiting for hours, said 'If he is dead, bring me his body, if he is sick, tell me where he is' to the guards. Upon her reaction, the guards brought her son to the door of the visitation room for 2 minutes. She was later threatened by the guards and removed from the grounds.      Günsel who stated that she can not see her son for 6 months, said his son had a gastrointestinal bleeding during the hunger strike. Günsel said: "I am concerned about his life because he is in solitary confinement. They have to let him out once. He is not doing well as it is." Günsel who stated that she applied to Humans' Rights Association (İHD), demanded the isolation to be removed.Günsel who stated that all of the hunger strikers are in critical condition, said: "They brought 4 hunger strikers to the visitation room in wheelchairs. They were not able to speak. I can't stop thinking about them. I can't sleep. They can lose their lives any minute. The isolation must be removed once."
