Investigation about the torture in Halfeti 2019-07-02 11:18:59   URFA - In scope of the investigation regarding the torture claims under custody in Halfeti, the victims were referred to Forensic Medicine Institution (ATK) to confirm the torture. According to the information obtained,  in spite of the victim statements, no action has been taken so far about the police officers in charge.   3 people 1 of whom is a police officer, was killed in an armed clash in Urfa, Halfeti.  Following the incident, an operation was launched agains 51 people and they were taken under custody with a raid to their residents. The investigation launched as a result of the Urfa Bar's criminal complaint continues. In scope of the investigation launched by Urfa Chief Prosecutor's office, 12 of the 13 people who got arrested was brought to Urfa Court House for depositions.   According to the information recieved, the 12 citizens who defined the torture they were subjected to in detail, filed criminal complaints about the police officers involved. All of those who were subjected to torture was referred to the ATK on prosecutor's office's instruction and were examined.    Urfa Bar Board of Executives member and Humans' Rights Center Coordinator Attorney Mevlüt Güneş stated that they got involved in the case as a result of the applications to the Humans' Rights Center of their Bar and that they made attempts to determine the allegations of torture in custody. Following their attempts, Güneş reported that most of the 51 detainees were tortured and said: " As a result of the complaints we have made , the Urfa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated an investigation. Those who were released within the scope of the investigation were referred to ATK."    Güneş who stated that the prosecutor's office have been working with the citizens that were tortured, but the police involved in the torture have not yet been deposed, said in order to prevent such attrocities, they will follow the case closely until the end.
