'He will continue the hunger strike if his demands are not met' 2019-09-20 11:21:53 İSTANBUL - Ezgi Çakır, attorney of Mustafa Koçak who was sentenced to life in prison regarding the killing of Prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz and who is on a hunger strike for 80 days, said her client will continue the hunger strike if his demands are not met.  Mustafa Koçak who was taken into custody on September 23, 2017 within the scope of the investigation, regarding the killing of İstanbul Public Prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz on March 31, 2015, was arrested and sent to prison. Koçak was arrested with the accusation of providing the gun for Şafak Yayla, which was used in the incident.     Koçak who was sentenced to life in prison, started a hunger strike in İzmir Şakran No 2 Type T Prison demanding a fair trial and the prosecution of his torturers. Ezgi Çakır, attorney of Koçak who is on hunger strike for 80 days demanded the demands of her client to be met.   Çakır said: "Mustafa Koçak was arrested on the statements of a witness called Berk Ercan. Many investigations were launched on the statements of Ercan that lead to severe penalties for tens of people." Çakır said: "According to the numbers of the Anti Terror Branch, 334 people was taken in for depositions as a result of this witnesses statements. Again, scores of people are being kept in prisons for long periods as a result of Ercan's statements. People's Law Office lawyers and Contemporary Lawyers' Association lawyers had sentences of a total of 159 years due to the statements of this 'witness'.     Çakır stating that her client will continue the hunger strike if his demands are not met, said: " He demands his right to defense to be recognized because his right to defense was violated. He also demands the prosecution of the police who mistreated him. He wants these demands to be met immediately. And more over, Mustafa is not the only person on hunger strike, his family also joined him and they are on hunger strike aw well."
