Five German citizens taken into custody in Ankara 2019-10-05 14:28:43 ANKARA - Five German citizens were detained as a result of police operations in Ankara. Ankara Public Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation which included the arrest of 5 German citizens.   The 5 German citizens have been taken into custody following a police operation a few days ago and have been kept in Ankara Police Headquarters. The German Consulate was informed of the detention.   According to the information received, a limitation decision was made for the investigation and the detainees were in custody on the base of allegations of "being member of an illegal organization" and "making propaganda for an illegal organization".   The five German citizens taken into custody are expected to appear in front of the prosecutor's office, once security procedures are over.   The detentions of German citizens reminded of the words of Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu at the opening of the Election Coordination Center in Ankara's Polatli district in March.   Soylu said: "They go to the meetings organised by terrorist organisations in Europe or in Germany, and then they come to Antalya, Bodrum, Mugla to have a holiday. We are taking measures to provent this. From now on it won't be that easy to smear the country abroad and then come here hoping to enjoy a holiday."
