Letter ban to Journalist Demir: You are leaking information 2020-01-09 12:16:56 İZMİR - Imprisoned journalist Ruken Demir stated that she had been banned from sending and recieving letters on grounds that she 'leaks' information about the prison to the outside.   Our reporter Ruken Demir who was taken into custody with JinNews reporter Melike Aydın on November 12, 2019 in İzmir and was arrested 4 days later is banned from sending and recieving letters.   Our reporter Demir told her brother Hogir Demir on January 6 in a visit that she had been battered and a strip search was imposed on her.   Demir stating that she has health issues and she is not being referred to the hospital even though she made necessary applications, said the prison doctor confirmed the problem with her left eye.   Demir who stated that she was taken into custody with her hands cuffed behind the back, added that she was battered inside the police vehicle and she was not given a medical report in the hospital she was brought to even though she told about her injuries. Demir also stated that a strip search was imposed on her when they took her to the prison campus.   Her brother Hogir Demir stating that she requested to meet with the prison administration regarding the violations of rights imposed on her but they didn't let her, said: "Ruken was banned from sending and recieving letters and it still continues. They claim that she 'leaks' information about the prison and the prison administration to the outside. She also said that the books and newspapers like, Yeni Yaşam, BirGün and Evrensel is not being given to her.     Brother Demir who stated that the problem with her eye is caused by the battery she suffered during detention, said that the prison doctor confirmed she has a vision loss of 2%.
