Court rules Güven's travel ban appropriate 2020-02-05 14:31:15 DİYARBAKIR – The court board ruled DTK Co-Chair Leyla Güven's ban to travel abroad appropriate and did not overturn the judicial control order.   The 9th hearing of Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair and People's Democratic Parti Hakkari MP Leyla Güven where she is accused of 'managing an illegal organization' was held in Diyarbakır 9th High Criminal Court. Güven did not attend the hearing.   Güven's attorney Cemile Turhallı said: "The ban to travel abroad and the judicial control measures that have been going on for my client for more than a year have turned into a purpose of punishing my client and preventing her from exercising certain rights. Due to her parliamentary role, she was unable to attend the invitation she received from the European Parliament. This causes a direct unfair intervention to the fundamental right arising from the right to vote and to be elected. Apart from that, my client want her ban to be removed because she has relatives living abroad and because of her health issues. This is a violation of the right to private life. The judicial control measure should be used for the enforcement of a right, not for the prevention of a right. I demand the ban to travel abroad and the judicial control measures to be removed."   After the short break, the court board decided continuation of the judicial control and prohibition of traveling abroad on the grounds of the nature of the crime and the stage of the file. The court, which decided to send the file to the prosecutor's office for preparation, postponed the hearing to April 8.
