Yiğit: Turkey will spiral down further if they obstruct Syrian Army 2020-02-10 11:40:58 İSTANBUL - Middle East expert Hamide Yiğit who stated that Turkey can only get out of the Syria conflict by negotiations with the Damascus regime, said: "Turkey must maximize its border security against the jihadist groups that can turn into a threat against it and must not obstruct the advance of Syrian Army or otherwise they will spiral down further." The war that has been going on for 9 years in Syria deepens with the intervention of the regional states and global imperialist powers. Recent developments in Idlib pitted against the armies of Turkey and Syria, proves that the agreements made between the regional states and the global powers are not a solution anymore. Indeed the military shipment Turkey made with convoys on February 2 despite the agreements, have become a target to Syrian Army and 8 military personnel had lost their lives.     The statements Turkey made made loudly following the Turkey's military shipments being targeted did not stop the progress of the Syrian Army. Indeed Syrian Army gained control of Seraqib located on M5 Highway on February 6, which has a critical importance for the region despite Turkey's statements. While the Syrian Army that gained control of Seraqib which is 8 kilometers away from Idlib deployed its forces there, Turkey intensified its military shipments in the region. While the two forces that came so close to eachother increased the tension,  there was a meeting between Russian and Turkish officials on February 8, which was interpreted to reduce tension.   Following the meeting, Turkey Foreign Ministry have made a statement and said the talks will continue next week. While all these developments were taking place, Russia had a meeting with the leaders of the Kurdish forces. Middle East expert Hamide Yiğit said Turkey could not make the Russian authorities accept the agreement decision.   'THE DIVERSION TACTIC MADE TURKEY A TARGET'   Yiğit, stating that Turkey started an operation to stop the advance of the Syrian Army to Idlib city center, said: "After losing Maaret el Numan, a serious concern and critisim against Turkey started amongst the jihadists. Turkey staged a military shipments to Seraqib in order to defuse some of this tension. The convoy headed towards south while it was advancing to Seraqib all of a sudden. That diversion tactic made the Syrian Army attack. There is no clear information why Turkey made that move."   Turkey will have to retreat from Idlib tomorrow if not today. Yiğit who stated that Turkey will choose to retreat with an agreement, said: "Turkey will increase its warmongering attitude and pretend that they have gained a victory. Because it is not an easy thing to keep those jihadists in line there.  Because the TAF went there according to the conditions determined in the Sochi Consensus. But Turkey has another agenda. And the promises TUrkey made to the jihadists is different in that sense. A negative attitude of Turkey that guaranteed some outcomes to the jihadists will have a different return to Turkey. Therefore, if Turkey can not established the armed area,  it will activate the effort to convince the jihadists.   Yiğit stating that, Turkey can only free itself from the Syrian conflict through negotiations with the Damascus regime, said: "Turkey must maximize its border security against the jihadist groups that can turn into a threat against it and must not obstruct the advance of Syrian Army or otherwise they will spiral down further. Turkey is still not ready for that. Because they are deeply involved in with these jihadist groups. That's why this will be so hard for Turkey. Turkey will have to do this in long term if not in short term. Or Turkey will go further down the spiral."     MA / Naci Kaya
