2 years 1 month prison sentence to Journalist Oruç 2020-03-02 11:37:04 DİYARBAKIR - Journalist Aziz Oruç was sentenced to 2 years and 1 month in prison in the trial he was charged with "propagandizing an illegal organization".   The 10th hearing of the case opened in Diyarbakır 9th High Criminal Court in 2017 with the allegation of "propagandizing an organization" on the grounds of social media posts of Journalist Aziz Oruç. Oruç attended the hearing via SEGBİS (Live video system) from Patnos Type L Prison where he is being held.   Many journalists followed the hearing, where his lawyer Ferhat Kılınç was present and his father Halil Oruç attended.     Journalist Oruç made his defense and said: "I am a journalist. The posts made are for news purposes only. The charges against me are an accusation against journalists. I retweeted an article of Mesopotamia Agency. It is not propaganda. I request my acquittal."   The court who made their decision following the hearing of the requests, sentenced Oruç to 2 years and 1 month in prison on charges of 'propaganda'.
