HDP Mardin Provincial Co-Chair Ağaoğlu and Alkan arrested 2020-03-07 12:08:46 MARDİN - Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Mardin branch co-chair Perihan Ağaoğlu and former chair Musa Alkan were taken into custody alongside 9 other people as a result of house raids carried out in Mardin province on February 29. While eight of the detainees were released after procedures at the police station, lawyer Ali Kahraman was remanded in custody for alleged “membership to a terrorist organisation”.   The other two detainees, Ağaoğlu and Alkan, have been referred to court earlier today.   Both politicians have been remanded in custody because of press briefings they attended in 2015 and statements of secret witnesses. Ağaoğlu and Alkan, aho are accused of being members of a terrorist organisation, have been sent to Mardin E Type Closed Prison.   Three co-chairs of HDP Mardin branch have been imprisoned in Mardin since last year. In February 2019, HDP Mardin co-chair Ali Sincar was jailed for “spreading terror propaganda”.   Co-chairs of DBP (Democratic Regions Party) Mardin branch, Leyla Bozkurt and Şehmus Sun, were also arrested in July 2019. Hasibe Mengirkaon, who was elected the new co-chair afterwards, was also imprisoned in December 2019.
