Nusaybin Co-Mayor Kaya remains in prison 2020-03-07 12:09:29   MARDİN - Former co-mayor Nusaybin, Sara Kaya has been imprisoned since January 2017.   Sara Kaya was elected co-mayor to Mardin’s Nusaybin district municipality in the local elections of March 31, 2014. She was arrested during a house raid in Nusaybin on 13 January 2017, accused of 'disrupting the unity and integrity of the state'. She was then dismissed from her charge and a trustee was appointed to the municipality.   As the Kurdish politician remains in jail for over three years, the 16th hearing in the case against her was held at Mardin 4th Heavy Penal Court on Friday. Kaya attended the hearing vide video conferencing system SEGBIS from the Tarsus T Type Prison, in Mersin province, where she is held in custody.   The court ruled continuation of detention for Kaya and adjourned the hearing to May 4.
