Prosecutor requests up to 15 years of prison sentence for Journalist Karataş 2020-03-11 16:54:58 DİYARBAKIR – Prosecutor requested 7 to 15 years of prison sentence for journalist Karataş with the accusation of 'being a member of an illegal organization', for his activities in DTK. The 8th hearing of Evrensel Newspaper writer and Labour Party Central Executive Board memner Yusuf Karataş who is being charged with 'establishing and managing an illegal organization' for attending Democratic Society Congress (DTK) meetings was held at Diyarbakır 9th High Criminal Court. Karataş did not attend the hearing but his attorney Diren Elif Vurgun was present.  Turkey Journalists' Union (TGS) Diyarbakır Representative Mahmut Oral was at court to follow the hearing.   ATK: IT MIGHT BE A MATCH   At the hearing, it was recorded that the sound solution reports requested from the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) were received. In the report prepared by ATK as a result of the comparison of the sound recordings and the sound record sample taken from Karataş, were told that it 'could be' a match.   PROSECUTOR REQUESTED PRISON SENTENCE   The prosecutor told that Karataş have attended the DTK meetings at different times, made speeches there, and entered the buildings where the meetings were held, therefore he committed the crime of 'being a member of PKK/KCK and requested a prison sentence of 7 and a half years to 15 years.   The court decided Karataş's ban to travel abroad to continue and postponed the hearing to May 4.
