261 bodies buried beneath the sidewalk 2020-05-18 16:47:44 İSTANBUL - The fact that 261 bodies exhumed from the Garzan Cemetery was buried beneath a sidewalk in Kilyos Cemetery in a mass grave came into light. Families and NGO representatives stated that this was the reflection of the enemy law.   282 bodies were exhumed from the Garzan Cemetery located in Bitlis during the curfew on February 19, 2017. It was revealed that the bodies were taken to İstanbul Forensic Medicine Institude by the Bitlis Governorate on January 2, 2018. And recently, the fact that 261 of those bodies exhumed from the Garzan Cemetery was buried beneath a sidewalk in Kilyos Cemetery in a mass grave came into light.   Families who protested the situation, gave blood samples to claim the bodies of their loved ones. But despite the passing 2 and a half years, most of them couldn't. Only 21 of the bodies were identified and delivered to their families so far. The bodies of 261 people are still not delivered to their families.   BODIES BURIED BENEATH THE SIDEWALK   A remarkable and horrifying detail about the place where the bodies were buried came into light recently. It was revealed that the bodies were buried beneath the sidewalk between the parcel reserved for family cemeteries and the road. It turned out that 261 bodies were buried on top of each other for a place reserved for 18 bodies.   SEWER PIPES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MASS GRAVE   It is clearly visible that the sidewalk was dug about 3 meters deep and a wall was built on the left side. There are concrete blocks on top of the burial ground which was covered with soil. The soil was cobbled with paving stones after the burial.   It is also seen that there have been some unfinished sewerage work done at the burial ground and the pipies are left open.
