MUĞLA - As part of the investigation launched into the killing of Pınar Gültekin in Muğla, a man named Mertcan A. has been arrested on charge of “spoliation of evidence”. Mertcan A. is also the brother of Cemal Metin A., who has been arrested for killing Gültekin.

One more person has been arrested as part of the investigation launched into the feminicide of Pınar Gültekin, who went missing in Muğla province on July 16 and whose deceased body was found in a forest area on July 21.

Mertcan A., the brother of Cemal Metin A., who is behind bars pending trial for killing Gültekin, has been arrested on charge of "spoliation of evidence."

In the light of the suspicions that there might be more than one person involved in the killing of Pınar Gültekin, it has been detected that the phone of Mertcan A. gave signals at and around the scene of the incident and around the same time with his elder brother Cemal Metin A.

Upon this finding, Mertcan A. was detained on charge of "spoliation of evidence." Giving his statement, he admitted that he went to the country cottage where Gültekin was killed, but rejected having spoiled evidence.

BACKGROUND

Living in the Neighborhood of Akyaka in Ula, Muğla, Pınar Gültekin left her house on July 16. Talking to her sister on the phone, elder sister Sibel Gültekin could not reach her after that. Worried about her life, she and mother Şefika Gültekin went to Muğla and reported her missing by appealing to the Akyaka Gendarmerie Station. Following this report, gendarmerie teams started searching for the missing woman.

Sibel Gültekin said her sister was living in her own house in Akyaka and added, "The last time that I talked to her was at around 3 p.m. on Thursday. She told me she was at a shopping mall in Menteşe. Then, her phone was switched off and we could not reach her again. We informed the authorities about the issue. It was said that she was seen in Akyaka the day after.

The dead body of Pınar Gültekin was found in a forest area in Menteşe on July 21, 2020. Murder Suspect Cemal Metin A. was detained in relation with the incident on the same day. She has been arrested on charge of "killing with monstrous feeling."
