İZMİR- The people of İzmir spent the night on the streets following the earthquake shook the city in the evening. Citizens who had trouble accesing tents, tried to warm up beside the fire while some slept in their cars.

The 6.8 magnitude earthquake occured in İzmir was felt intensely in the city center and the districts, especially in Bayraklı and Seferihisar. While scores of buildings were destroyed in Bayraklı, many buildings were damaged.  It was stated that 10 people were injured and one person lost his life as a result of the collapse of the 8 storey building on Mustafa Kemal Street in Mansuroğlu District of Manavkuyu district. While the search and rescue efforts continue at the building, the citizens had to spend the night outdoors.

Some people made tents out of tarpaulins in the parks and brought beds and blankets. Some citizens tried to warm up beside the fires and others had to sleep in their cars.

The search and rescue continued for the citizens trapped under rubble.

NOT ENOUGH TENTS PROVIDED

A citizen called Birgül Esen told that she was at work during the earthquake. Stating that all of the family members were in different places at the time of the earthquake, Esen said: "I was able to reach my husband first. I couldn't get a hold of my daughter and I was very scared. We barely got out of our office. We have been waiting here on the street since the earthquake. There isn't enough tents. They brought 12 tents here. Some could get one and some couldn't. They told more tents will be coimg but it didn't. The power is out, we can't get inside our buildings. I think we will be safer in the park."

IT'S COLD

Stating that she was at home at the time of the earthquake and it was very intense, Elif Ökten (19), said that she crawled under the table and waited for the earthquake to be over. Expressing that she went out immediately after the earthquake, Ökten said: "There are 4 people staying at our house. Me and my elder sisters. When we first ran out of the building, we saw that two buildings had collapsed. They told us we shouldn't go back in. We have been waiting here since 15.00 yesterday. We don't have a shortage of food yet but there are not enough tents. It is very cold and it can rain."

EVERYONE'S AT THE PARK

Şervan Ebdi who works at a diner near the building that had collapsed said he ran out to call his family but he saw the collapsed buildings so he ran to help the people. We dug a woman out of the rubble with the people around. Then came the help and the ambulances. My employee helped the people with food, tea, bathroom and etc. People are scared to go home so everyone's at the park. There is a shortage of tents. Sometimes people argue for that."

THERE IS NO POWER

A shopkeeper working near the collapsed building, Hani Ebdi (24), said the first thing that collapsed was the minaret of the mosque. Stating that the building that collapsed was new, said: "We dug 4 people out of the rubble. A woman was dead. Then the police came and told us they will help the people and we should leave. Now everyone is outside and everyone's scared. There is no power, so we are all waiting."

MINE WORKERS WORK WITHOUT A BREAK

On the other hand, miners from Soma continued to work with the search and rescue teams all night. Water and power outage continues in Bayraklı.
