ŞIRNAK – Nafya Küçük who lost her two sons in the basements of Cizre that was set on fire during the clashes 5 years ago said, "I screamed so hard that my scream put humanity to shame."

It has been 5 years since the curfew in Cizre district of Şırnak, which started on December 14, 2015 and continued until March 2, 2016. During this curfew, 288 people lost their lives, 177 of them lost their lives in the basements where they hid to save their lives, and hundreds were injured. People waited for days in those basements where they took refuge in, in the city being bombed left and right.

Despite all the efforts of HDP politicians, human rights organizations and lawyers in the parliament, the attacks were not stopped so that these people in the basements could go out. 21 Peace Mothers got out and headed to those basements during a time of absolute violence, where people were being murdered in the streets.

Peace Mothers who tried to walk to those basements four times with their white scarves in their hands, were blocked by police and the soldiers. One of these mothers was 50 year old Nafya Küçük, who lost his two sons, Adil (27) and Agit (22) in those basements. Küçük told about those days.

HE FOLLOWED HIS BROTHER

Stating that her married son Adil was injured during the attacks on Nur District, Mother Küçük told that her other son Agit, who received the news, went after his brother and never returned. Stating that she saw an ambulance picking up a woman who was injured from the street while she was thinking about how she could save her son, Küçük told that she saw a great number of mothers looking for their children in front of Cizre City Hall, when she got on the ambulance and went there.

'THE NEIGHBORHOOD WAS BEING SHELLED'

Telling that they called Mehmet Tunç on the phone, who was also in those basements, Küçük said: "Tunç didn't say where the wounded were. Because whenever he disclosed their location, those locations were bombed. My son was injured in the Nur distrcit and were carried to those basements afterwards.

MOTHERS HEADED TO THE BASEMENTS WITH THEIR WHITE SCARVES

Not knowing what they can do, the mothers tied their white scarves on sticks and tried to go to the basements to find the people took refuge in there. Mother Küçük said: "But the police stopped us. But we didn't give up. We marched to the basements with 21 mothers the other day, but the police surrounded us and took us under custody. They released us after fining us at the police station.

SHE LOST BOTH HER SONS IN 4 DAYS

Expressing that they did not give up trying to go to the basements, Küçük said: "We tried to reach there 4 times and we were blocked by the police at all times. A few days later I saw on TV that Adil lost his life. My whole world came crashing down around me. They took his body to Silopi. We wanted to claim the body of our child and bury him in Cizre, but the police did not allow it.We buried him in Şırnak. 4 days after Adil's death, we heard that my younger son Agit was killed in those basements. I screamed so hard when I heard about Agit's death, my scream put humanity to shame."

'I AM FIGHTING FOR PEACE'

Noting that she will never forget what happened to them, Küçük said: "My two sons were slaughtered within 4 days. But I never wanted war, not even for a moment. Just like I walked with a white scarf in my hand those days, I am fighting for peace today."
