BATMAN – 35 people was accused with the record of statement a blind citizen Hasan Yalçın was forced to sign, after her daughter was forced to testify against him by the police.

An incident took place that will reveal how the investigations into detention and arrests of Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) executives and members were prepared. The blind Hasan Yalçın, who was taken into custody and taken to the police station was forced to sign some records of statement he thought was his and 35 people including Kozluk Co-Mayor Nazime Avcı was taken into custody as a result.

14 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER COERCED INTO TESTIFYING AGAINST HIS FATHER

It all started with 14 year old S.Y being coerced into testifying against his blind father Hasan Yalçın in the Kozluk district of Batman. S.Y testified against her father on August 2020, as a result of the pressure of the police.

DETAINED FOR 4 DAYS

The house where Yalçın lived with his family was raided and Yalçın was taken into custody as a result of the statements of her daughter. Being taken to District Security Directorate, Yalçın was held there for 4 days. Being detained for the first time in his life, Yalçın was not read his rights by the police and was deposed without the presence of an attorney. Then he was made to sign some papers he believed to be his own statements. He was referred to court with an accusation of 'complicity to a terrorist organization' and 'propagandizing a terrorist organization' and was sentenced to house arrest.

Following this incident, 35 people including Kozluk Co-Mayor Nazime Avcı were detained in an operation carried out in September. Those detained were released later. Clueless about what's going on, Yalçın on house arrest learned that these people were detained as a result of the records of statements he was forced to sign.

YALÇIN: THEY TRICKED ME INTO TESTIFYING

Explaining what happened, Yalçın told that the record of statement he signed wasn't read to him and he was clueless about what he was signing.

Pointing out that he has a medical report proving he is blind and her wife is mentally disabled, Yalçın said: "They tricked my daughter and force her to testify against me. They tricked me into signing a testimony against 35 people. I am disabled. We live in poverty with 5 children. Why are they doing this to us? Those who have to help us while we live in poverty are doing this to us.

'THEY MADE ME A TARGET'

Explaining that because he was detained for the first time in his life, he didn't know anything about the proceedings and he didn't know what to do, Yalçın said: "They told me to sign some papers and I did. After a month, they carried out an operation in Kozluk and 35 people were detained. They told those detained that I testified against them. They made me a target. I never testified against anyone."
