DİYARBAKIR - Prisoner Hamza Yıldız, who stated that the pressures in prisons turned into physical attacks, called out, "If you don't us leaving prison in coffins, apply to the relevent institutions."

The pressures on detainees in prisons continue. People are randomly being transferred to other prisons, beaten and strip searches are imposed on them. With the coronavirus (Kovid-19) pandemic, prisoners' right to open visitation, sports, conversation with other prisoners, courses, and access to health services are also blocked in prisons. Pressure on detainees in Diyarbakır High Security Closed Prison No. 2 threatens their life safety. Hamza Kaya, who is imprisoned in Diyarbakır No. 2 High Security Closed Prison, said in a phone call with his mother Türkan Yıldız that the pressures against them turned into physical attacks.

'IF YOU DON'T WANT US TO LEAVE THE PRISON ON A COFFIN..'

Kaya, who has been in prison since 2017 due to 6 years and 3 prison sentences for "membership in a terrorist organization", said that the pressures against them reached a new dimension every day. Mother Yıldız conveyed her son's statements as follows: “His ward were raided first by the soldiers and then by the guards for a search. He shared that he and his friend, who were in the same room during the raid, were physically attacked. The pressures have increased a lot, if you do not want our us the leave the prison in a coffin, call all the relevant non-governmental organizations and institutions. Yıldız also said that they applied to the prosecutor but the said it was non of his business."

Expressing that prison visitations are limited to 2 people, Yıldız said that they were subjected to repeated searches at prison entrances. Yıldız stated that another problem is the dress quota and said, “Due to the dress quota, we cannot bring clothes to our children. Winter is coming, the weather has turned cold. Clothes cannot dry out like they did in the summer, so we want this quota to be lifted.”

Stating that the food is not enough and not healthy, Yıldız said most of the prisoners are getting sick because of it.

CALL FOR AWARENESS

Yıldız, who wanted the violations to come to an end, said, “Our children are not in prison for a themselves, they are in prison for our people. No matter what happens, we stand by our children and are proud of them. I call on non-governmental organizations, our people here, our people in Europe and the international community to be sensitive to the violations of rights in prisons. I want the necessary steps to be taken to put an end to these violations.”
