URFA - The Governor's Office rejected the request of Şenyaşar Family who wanted to set up a tent in front of the Urfa Courthouse due to the cold weather.

The sit in Şenyaşar family refers to as the 'Justice Watch' started by Emine Şenyaşar who lost her husband and two sons in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız and Ferit Şenyaşar who survived the attack wounded is on its 287th day today. While Ferit Şenyaşar continues the sit in in front of the courthouse, Emine Şenyaşar stayed back at her house in Suruç due to her health issues.

Ferit Şenyaşar wrote to Presidency Communication Center (CİMER) on December 7, 2021 and conveyed their request to set up a tent to protect them from the cold, on the area the family is staging a sit in. In the application where Şenyaşars underlined that there is a tent in front of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır building for the people who protest the HDP, the family requested that the same rights must be recognized for them as well in terms of equal citizenship.

The Governor's Office rejected the application due to the law on meetings and demonstrations.

REACTIN TO THE DECISION

Reacting to the decision, Ferit Şenyaşar said: "The place where we are staging the sit in is outside of the perimeter of the courthouse. Most of our days have passed here in 2021. It is winter and it's getting cold. My mother is old and she got sick because of the cold weather. We asked for permission from the Governor's Office to set up a tent to protect us from the cold. The Governor's Office rejected our application. Why are they allowing other people protesting the HDP to set up a tent and not to us?"

'ZERO POINT OF LAW'

Stating that they are being persecuted in front of the Court house, Şenyaşar said: "The Göbekli Tepe in Urfa is considered to be the zero point of the history. Urfa courthouse is the zero point of law. A different kind of law is applied for different people in Turkey. What gives us strength to be here is the support of good people. The Urfa Chief Prosecutor drives by in front of us with his luxery vehicle every day and sees the injustice. We believe that one day justice will be served and continue our struggle with determination."
