ANKARA - Stating that the Imrali isolation has affected all social segments living in Turkey as a whole, HDP MP Ali Kenanoğlu said: "A crime against humanity is being committed on Imrali Island."
The demonstration, which was initiated by the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) MPs demanding that PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan meet with his lawyers, continued on its 23rd day. MPS Ali Kenanoğlu, Zeynel Özen, Şevin Coşkun, Murat Sarısaç, Kemal Peköz, Ali Kenanoğlu, Erdal Aydemir, Murat Çepni, Celadet Gaydalı, Abdullah Koç and Habip Missing in front of the Assembly, carrying banners “Let the law be implemented in İmralı” and “Isolation is a crime against humanity” is making a statement.
Speaking at the demonstration, HDP Istanbul MP Ali Kenanoğlu said that the isolation is an application for isolation from public.
'A HUMANITY CRIME IS COMMITTED ON IMRALI ISLAND'
Kenanoğlu continued: “Isolation has a human dimension. Isolation with its humanitarian dimension is exclusion from society and in this respect it is an inhuman practice. A crime against humanity is also committed on the island of Imrali. On the one hand, isolation is torture; therefore, there is also torture against Mr. Öcalan and other prisoners on the island of İmralı. Torture is also a crime according to both our constitution and international law. Another important dimension is political reasons. The isolation is imposed for political reasons. When we look at these political reasons, it is entirely the Kurdish problem, the solution of the Kurdish problem in Turkey through democratic means, the Kurdish people's declaring their will to try to keep their faith, identity, culture and language alive, is to prevent them from saying that we exist in this land, we are here from the ancients, we are the main element of this land. Isolation is not an individual practice, because it has a political side. Öcalan being isolated is not an ordinary person. In terms of what it means, this isolation is applied primarily to the Kurdish people and to the entire Turkish society.
