VAN - Stating that the absolute isolation of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan does not benefit the country, HDP MP Muazzez Orhan Işık said: “Mr. Öcalan is the key to peace. The source of poverty and lawlessness is isolation." 

 

PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who is held under heavy isolation conditions in İmralı Type F High Security Prison, is prevented from meeting with his lawyer and his family. Öcalan has not been heard from since his interrupted phone call with his brother Mehmet Öcalan on March 25, 2021. The People's Democratic Party (HDP) MPs started the Justice Watch demonstration in the Parliament demanding an end to the isolation of Öcalan and the violations of rights in prisons.

 

'ISOLATION IS THE BASIS OF CRISES'

 

Muazzez Orhan Işık, one of the MPs holding the demonstration, condemned the isolation. Işık said: "The isolation aims to silence Öcalan's voice. A policy of isolation is being carried out not only on Mr. Abdullah Öcalan, but also on the entire Turkish society. That's why we say that isolation concerns the entire society. Today, the collapse of domestic and foreign politics and the fact that no one can speak their own word is the source of this isolation policy. There is an attempt to close the denial and destruction policy towards the Kurdish people with the policies of war and isolation; therefore, an absolute isolation is being implemented to prevent the ideas and words of Mr. Öcalan, whom millions of people call 'my will'. In fact, Mr. Öcalan has been in isolation since the first day he was arrested, but there has been an absolute isolation for the last 21 months. We are unaware of his health, whether he is alive or not. Isolation does not benefit the people of this country."

 

'ÖCALAN IS THE KEY TO PEACE'

 

Stating that if Öcalan's voice reaches the society, the crises can be eliminated, Işık said: “We have all experienced the processes in which Mr. Öcalan's word reached the public; not a single person lost their life, no mother cried, there were improvements in the economy, social peace and the hope of living together arose. The policies of marginalization and denial have come to an end. This happened between 2012 and 2015. The clashes stopped with a single word from Mr. Öcalan. Öcalan is the 'key to peace'. It is important that Öcalan's word is spread to the public. Everyone in this country is experiencing the problem created by the isolation in every field. The source of poverty, lawlessness and slaughter experienced today is isolation. If Mr. Öcalan's voice reaches the society, all these processes of chaos will come to an end because all the resources of this country are being transferred to the war waged through isolation and to weapons."
