Disabled citizens in a difficult situation

MALATYA - The needs of disabled citizens affected by the earthquake in Malatya are met by their relatives, despite the harsh living conditions and indifference of the relevant institutions.

In Malatya, which is one of the cities where the destruction was most severe in Maraş-centered earthquakes, citizens heal their wounds with their own efforts. On the first day of the earthquake, the needs of thousands of disabled citizens staying in their homes were not met in the city where the disabled people who stayed in Güven Nursing Home were left under the snow. Stating that they were not sought by the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services for a citizen named Döne Dağ, who was 70% disabled despite 26 days after the earthquake, her older sister Perihan Yücekaya called the authorities.

THERE IS NO HELP

Stating that Döne is 70 percent disabled, sister Yücekaya said. “Döne cannot do her care skills. Although he was 70 percent disabled and registered in the municipality, no one called. Her caretaker had to leave her because she was a victim of the earthquake. We have been on the streets with Döne for 25 days. We stay in the tent but sometimes we stay at the school because there is no toilet there. Unable to meet self-care needs. Aftershocks still continue in the city. I can't get out without removing Döne. We are in a really difficult situation."

'WE NEED HELP'

Expressing that they have called the authorities many times until today, but there has been no return, Yücekaya said: “We called the Malatya Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services, but they stated that we made the wrong call and hung up. There are many victims on the street like me. We need help immediately."
