Earthquake victim: The dust will kill us

ANTEP- Pointing out that the debris was falling near their tents and Muzaffer Telek, one of the earthquake victims in Islahiye said: "The earthquake did not kill us, this dust will kill us."

In the İslahiye district of Antep, which was affected by the earthquakes that took place on February 6 in Maraş center, the health of the earthquake victims is adversely affected due to the debris removal works. Earthquake victims trying to bind up their wounds live in difficult conditions due to dust and asbestos rising from the debris.

EARTHQUAKE VICTIM CAN'T LIVE DUE TO THE DUST

Muzaffer Telek, who lives in a tent in the Avcılar Çiftliği Üstün region in the Atatürk District of İslahiye district, because his house was severely damaged, summarized the situation what they is getting through as "we are living in hell". Earthquake victim Telek, who is trying to hold on to life with his family of 11, said: "The debris is falling close to my tents. My 53 relatives died in the earthquake. We did not die in the earthquake, but the earthmoving trucks will kill us. We are trying to survive here. Excavation trucks pass here. Dust and soil devastates our child. The earthquake did not kill us, this dusty soil will kill us."

'NO ONE HELPED US EXCEPT HDP'

Pointing out that their psychology had deteriorated in the earthquake, Telek said:  "We did not see anyone who helped us except the People's Democratic Party (HDP) MPs in the post-earthquake period. Two months have passed since the earthquake. We became unemployed, our shops and houses were destroyed. But no official came to this region where we live. Fatma Şahin, the Mayor of this place, said: 'There was no way, we couldn't come.' They came here from Northern Iraq (Federated Kurdistan Region) but they say they couldn't come here."

EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS NEED CONTAINERS

Noting that he went to Izmir for a week after the earthquake and then came back, Telek said: "I couldn't leave our land. We will not leave here no matter what. If we are going to die, we will die in our land. Our biggest problem right now is earthmoving trucks. We suffer until the evening. Trucks are here. They race. They honk their horns. I don't know how this will happen. When it rains, their tents flood. Here we need a sink and a bathroom. If they give us a container, at least we'll be relieved for a short time."
