AMED - The family of Yusuf Nakçi in Elazığ High Security Prison No. 1 stated that they could not visit prisoners due to health problems and called for their child to be transferred to Amed.

Families of prisoners experience many difficulties as they are transferred to prisons in distant cities. Many families cannot visit their relatives for years due to economic problems. One of these families is the family of Yusuf Nakçi, who was transferred from Amed(Diyarbakır) to Xarpêt on November 22, 2017. Nakçi's family could not visit their children for months due to health problems and financial difficulties. Yusuf Nakçi, who was detained in the Farqîn district of Amed on May 11, 2017, on the allegation of "being a member of a terrorist organization" and was taken to the Silvan Gendarmerie Station, where he was tortured, and then detained at the Diyarbakır Police Department for 14 days, was arrested by the court with the statements of anonymous witnesses.

In the case filed against him, Nakçi was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment in the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court on the grounds of "disrupting the unity and integrity of the state" with open and secret witness statements. After his arrest, Nakçi was placed in Diyarbakır Type D Prison and imposed the imposition of espionage on the prison where he was held. Because he did not accept it, he was transferred to Elazığ High Security Prison No. 1 on November 22, 2017. Yusuf Nakçi's wife, Hatice Nakçi, who has been staying in Elazığ High Security Prison No. 1 since 2017, spent months due to her health problems and financial problems. She said she couldn't visit her husband due to economic problems.

'AT LEAST THE FAMILIES OF THE PRISONERS DON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS'

Nakçi, who said that she was exiled while her husband's trial was ongoing because she did not agree to be a confessor, said: "Our request is that he be brought to Diyarbakır, he was already punished innocently. There was nothing in the case file, but the sentence was still given. Our file has been in prison for 7 years and there is still no sound in Ankara. The trial continued for 4 years, and the file has been in the Supreme Court for 3 years. Prisoners are already suffering, so at least their families won't have any problems. If he had come to Diyarbakır, we could have gone to his meeting more easily. All the friends in Elazığ prison were experiencing this problem. Some people cannot see their families for 7-8 years. The families of the people with whom my husband is currently staying in the same room have not been able to visit them for 3 years because they do not have the means."

'MY HUSBAND NEEDS TO HAVE SURGERY'

Stating that her husband's health problems arose in prison and that he had problems accessing treatment, Nakçi said: “But he has not been operated on for 3 months. Due to his discomfort, his throat swells, it becomes difficult to breathe and he cannot swallow. The salivary gland is calcified. He had an eye problem and was able to go to the doctor after suffering from pain for several months. Even though he wears glasses now, he says his eyes still hurt. He hasn't had surgery for a few months."

Nakçi called on the authorities to accept his husband's transfer requests and bring her to Amed, and asked human rights institutions to be sensitive to rights violations.
