A lawsuit was filed against 71 people who protested in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul on October 8 last year, regarding the international conspiracy launched against PKK Leader Abdullah Ocalan on October 9, 1998.
Protesters, including Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) Co-Spokesperson Esengül Demir, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Marmara Spokesperson Dilber Demir, and prisoner's relative Kumri Akgul, who was on Justice Watch, were sued for "Opposition to the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations".
The indictment prepared by the Istanbul Anatolian Courthouse Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was accepted by the 1st Criminal Court of First Instance. The first hearing of those who will be tried for exercising their right to protest will be held on September 10.
