AGIRÎ - Özcan Babayiğit is at risk of losing his kidney if he does not undergo surgery, Dirayet Babayiğit, the mother of prisoner said: "As long as this persecution continues, the situation in the country will not improve."

The health problems of prisoner Özcan Babayiğit in Erzurum Oltu Type T Closed Prison are growing. Babayiğit was detained and arrested during a house raid in Agirî (Ağrı) in 2016. Babayiğit was sentenced to 13 years and 6 months at Ağrı 2nd High Criminal Court on charges of "being an illegal organization member" and "aiding an illegal organization". Babayiğit suffers from kidney failure, prostate and stomach diseases. His health condition is deteriorating due to the lack of necessary treatment.

WAITING FOR SURGERY

Babayiğit's mother Dirayet Babayiğit, pointing out that her son is under arrest for his political activities, said that he is not being treated other than being taken to and from the hospital. Mother said: "My son has kidney, prostate and stomach diseases. Although he is taken to the hospital, he is not given the necessary medication. Since the prostate problem was not operated on time, it affected his kidneys.  His health condition is getting worse. He has become unable to manage his own life in prison. He meets his daily basic needs with the help of his friends. During their last meeting in prison on Tuesday, the doctors told my son, one of his kidneys has failed. If he doesn't get treatment on time, there is a risk that his other kidney will also fail."

Reacting to the lack of treatment for her son, Babayiğit said: "Why don't you treat him? There are 7 months left for my son to finish his sentence. If you are not treating him, let us treat our children. This is a persecution and as long as this persecution continues, the situation in Turkey will not improve."

Mother Babayiğit continued as follows: "We stand by our children. Let the Kurdish people unite against this persecution and get rid of this persecution. All political parties and non-governmental organizations should come together to solve this issue. No issue will be solved without solving the Kurdish issue. Arresting or killing will not make us give up our cause. For this, let's join hands and demand peace and let's achieve peace as soon as possible."
