ISTANBUL - It is learned that the police detained a passerby during a wedding raid in Esenyurt district of Istanbul and asked one of the musicians why he sang the song “Hinê li Teştê Kin (Bring the Henna)” and asked the wedding owners who organized the wedding.

The police raided a wedding in Esenyurt district of Istanbul on August 10 and detained S. Karçık, E. Karçık, Ş.Karçık and A.B. from Karçık family and musicians H.B., S.T., M.T. and S.Ö.. The police also detained F.A., who was curious about the wedding and watched the halay on a chair. Five people, including F.A., were released the same day after their procedures at Kıraç Police Station.

3 of the other people were released by the prosecutor's office and the musician S.Ö. was released on house arrest for 15 days by the court to which he was referred for arrest. 9 people were asked about a video taken from a wedding. The Kurdish song “Bijî Bijî Heval Egîd (Long live comrade Egîd)” by Koma Berxwedan in the video was considered as “terrorist organization propaganda”.

WEDDING OWNERS ASKED 'WHO ORGANIZED IT'

Members of the Karçık family were shown the song in question and asked questions about who organized the wedding, who determined the flow of the wedding program, who called the musicians, and why there was no intervention when the song “Bijî Bijî Heval Egîd” was played.  Family members stated that they had not made any song list and that they had asked the musicians to play local songs.

'BRING THE HENNA' SONG QUESTION!

H.B., S.T. and M.T., who played instruments at the wedding, were asked why they accompanied the songs with their instruments. One of the musicians, M.T., was asked why he sang the song “Hinê li Teştê Kin (Bring the Henna)” at the wedding.

In the police statement, S.Ö. was asked about the song “Bijî Bijî Heval Egîd”. It was claimed that singing the song in question was “making illegal organization propaganda”. S.Ö. denied the accusations against him.

PASSERSBY DETAINED

F.A., in his statement, said that he was a cook, that he came across a wedding on the street and that he sat on an empty chair and started to watch the wedding. F.A. said: “I don't know who the wedding belonged to and I don't know any of the families. While I was sitting, the police officer asked for my ID card and asked me to step aside. Then he picked me up and brought me to the police station. I didn't notice the song subject to the file, I didn't sing along to it, I just watched it.”
