RIHA - Bazo Yılmaz, a ill prisoner who died in prison, was commemorated at his grave on the anniversary of his death. In the speeches made at the commemoration, Yılmaz's struggle was promised to be expanded.
Bazo Yılmaz (67), a seriously ill prisoner in Urfa Type T Closed Prison No 2, died on August 18, 2022.
Yılmaz was commemorated on the anniversary of his death at his grave in Yukarı Göklü Asri Cemetery in the rural Gogan neighborhood of Riha's (Urfa) Xelfetî (Halfeti) district. Yılmaz's family, Xelfetî Municipality co-mayors and many people attended the commemoration. The commemoration started with a moment of silence and carnations were placed on Yılmaz's grave. Speaking at the commemoration, 78's Initiative Riha Spokesperson Mehmet Vural said: “Bazo Yılmaz is a martyr of democracy.”
'WE WILL CONTINUE THE STRUGGLE'
Xelfetî Municipality Co-Mayor Mehmet Karayılan stated that Bazo Yılmaz dedicated his life to the struggle and said: “Comrade Bazo had to go abroad, but he made a valuable and meaningful return to serve the people. He claimed his own land. He became Co-Mayor and served Göklü. He did valuable services for everyone living in Göklü. After his mayorship ended, he did not go home and sit down. He fought for people to live in this country in rights and law. We will also continue his struggle. Comrade Bazo, a ill prisoner, was not released for treatment. This has no place in law or conscience. This is why our comrade Bazo was murdered. We promise at his grave; we will bring the democracy that comrade Bozo dreamed of. We will also increase the struggle so that sick prisoners do not lose their lives in prison.”
The participants of the commemoration later visited Yılmaz's family home.
