The campaign “Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, democratic solution to the Kurdish issue”, which was launched simultaneously in 74 centers of Europe on October 10, 2023, continues with various actions and events. As part of the campaign, the Free Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad - TJA), Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) organized “Freedom Readings” in many cities. 

 

Every day in different districts and neighborhoods in the cities of Kurdistan, Abdullah Öcalan's defenses are read and discussed. 

 

AMED

 

In this context, TJA met with women at DEM Party building in Karaz (Kocaköy) district of Amed (Diyarbakır). During the event, Abdullah Öcalan's “Rose Theory”, in which he discusses the issue of “self-defense”, was read. Some of the passages read from the theory are as follows: “I call it the Rose Theory. I thought about the rose. The rose grows thorns to protect itself. Even a rose, even a plant has self-defense. It is enough to look at nature, nature for self-defense. Don't we have the right to self-defense even as much as a Rose? Self-defense is sacred. Even a tree can pierce rocks to grow roots and sustain itself. Are we not even as good as this?”

 

After the reading, women discussed the importance of self-defense against the policies of special war. Also in Erxenî (Ergani) district, as part of the campaign, people came together in many neighborhoods and readings were held.

 

ÊLIH

 

In Elih (Batman), a meeting was held with citizens in Petrolkent neighborhood. Here, passages from Abdullah Öcalan's defenses were read and evaluations and comparisons were made on current politics. Readings were also held in Gîrêsirâ (Balpınar) town of Elih. 

 

WAN

 

In Wan (Van), the “Freedom Readings” event continued on its 7th day in many districts. Meetings were held in Eminpaşa neighborhood of Artemêt (Edremit) district, İstasyon neighborhood of Tûşba district and Yenimahalle neighborhood of Rêya Armûşê (İpekyolu) district. Passages from Abdullah Öcalan's defenses were read and attention was drawn to the ongoing isolation.

 

The event will continue throughout the day today in many cities.
