ISTANBUL - HDK Youth Assembly members stated that it is unacceptable for the government to make the "right to hope" a subject of bargaining and that they will continue their struggle against the isolation and trustee policies.

The aggravated isolation of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı Type F High Security Prison continues. For the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan and for the solution of the Kurdish issue, Kurds and their supporters started a movement "Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, democratic solution to the Kurdish question" in many countries around the world, especially in Europe. As the movement enters its 2nd year, protests and events continue.

Members of the Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) Youth Assembly made evaluations on the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan and the struggle of the youth against the trustee policies.

'RIGHT TO HOPE' CANNOT BE NEGOTIATED

Ali Talay noted that the state wants to end the ongoing conflicts in line with its own wishes and reminded that the government has made the "right to hope" a subject of bargaining. "We should not wait for the government for a solution. In this context, young people need to work hard. There is no solution at the moment, but they create the perception of a solution. And many segments of society believe this. The government has a threatening attitude like 'either you do what I say or I will appoint a trustee'. The government does not want to solve the problem, but to liquidate it," he said.

Drawing attention to the trustee policies, Talay said: "The people express their will in local elections. They elect mayors with up to 60 and 70 percent of the votes, but then trustees are immediately appointed. The appointment of a trustee does not only mean not recognising the will of a people, but also leads young people to despair. Here they are not only targeting the DEM Party or the Kurds. All segments showing solidarity with the Kurds are targeted. Oppression policies continue to increase. We will not give up against oppression and we will continue to struggle. We will use our democratic rights to the end."

APPOINTMENT OF PEOPLES' WILL

Stating that the places where trustees were appointed were not chosen by coincidence, "If we look at Batman, it is the place where Hezbollah is the most intense. It is one of the places where the state's special war is the most intense. It is one of the places where women's will is put forward in the strongest way. That is why the state is heading there. Halfeti is also a very important place for us in terms of history. Dersim is a place that has been constantly massacred since its history. So none of them are places chosen by chance," Ekin Aksu said.

6-MONTH VISIT BAN

Stating that the ruling media is misleading the public about the "process", Ekin Aksu noted that the meeting in İmralı was a family meeting and that a clear answer came from İmralı. Ekin Aksu said: "If they were sincere, they could have brought this to the agenda. Afterwards, they were banned from meeting for 6 months. With whom will the solution be made? The addressee of the solution was said to be in İmralı. If İmralı is the interlocutor of the solution, why was the 6-month ban given? If there will be a solution, it will be with İmralı. They know this too. Devlet Bahçeli said this in the Parliament. It is not sincere to impose such a ban when there is such a reality. It is the continuation of a policy that has been going on for years."

'WE MUST FIGHT'

Drawing attention to the economic crisis that manifests itself in universities, homes and workplaces, Ekin Aksu said: "As the HDK Youth Assembly, we are concerned about the youth, the youth's inability to find shelter, the economic crisis, as well as violence and harassment in schools. There is a state of crisis and poverty. Our friends are targeted in dormitories and schools with the practice of disclosure. All of these are combined with the practices of the government, which manifests itself with the war and economic crisis. Our call to the youth is; They should organise by combining their free will with their self-consciousness in schools, campuses, dormitories, fields, squares and wherever they are. They must reveal their organisation. Because a struggle can only show itself in a concrete place with organisation."

'ESCAPE IS NOT THE SOLUTION'

Harun Tayyip Türkan said: "They endeavour not to allow us to express our will and govern ourselves and not to open any space anywhere. It is necessary to evaluate the trustee in this way. The fact that they do not allow us to establish an administration even in an institution where work is carried out in the field of social services is a reflection of their colonialist practice against us. In recent years, brain drain has increased in Turkey. The reason for this is that young people see emigration as salvation because they cannot find enough space for themselves in Turkey. As young people, we state that this is a wrong practice. We need to increase the struggle in universities, streets and workplaces, in short, everywhere. Escape is definitely not a solution for us because escape from reality does not bring a solution."

'WE SHOULD LOOK FOR A SOLUTION IN OUR OWN COUNTRY'

Stating that young people are the most valuable treasure in society, "Treasures are sought where they are lost. Young people should seek solutions not elsewhere, but where they were born and raised, where they have their own identity. The solution of Kurdish youth is in their own homeland. The most familiar feature of those who do not give us the right to life is the attempt to put forward the practice of narrowing our right to life and living space as we step back. The most effective solution method we can do against this is to carry the struggle forward and grow the struggle wherever we find life," Türkan said.
