ÊLIH / WAN - Writers, journalists and artists visited the Co-mayors of Êlih Municipality and called for opposition to the policy of mortgaging the will.

A delegation including writers, journalists, artists and civil society representatives visited the Co-mayors of Êlih (Batman) Municipality Gülistan Sönük and Yeşil Işık, who were dissmissed by trustees. After the visit, a statement was made at the Dörtyol Junction on Diyarbakır Street.

EMPHASIS ON COMMON LIFE

Making a statement on behalf of the delegation, writer Oya Baydar emphasised common life, "We, the common owners of this land, are the children of this homeland with our colourful diversity.  We want to live our beliefs, religion, language and culture in peace and tranquillity, no matter which segment of society, which opinion, which political tradition, which region we are from. We do not want our constitutional rights to be blocked, our political preferences to be disregarded, our elected officials to be removed from office, and our will to be mortgaged with trustee appointments. We do not want to be demonised," she said.

Pointing out that the will of millions of people was ignored and trustees were appointed in many places, "They are dealing a blow to democracy and internal peace with arbitrary practices that damage the sense of justice," Oya said.

CALL FOR OPPOSITION

Calling for opposing the trustee policies, Oya Baydar continued her speech as follows: "We have come here on behalf of citizens who want peace, justice and respect for the will of the nation to say 'We do not consent' to the antidemocratic trustee politics and to convey our solidarity to those whose will has been usurped. We call on the government to give up the trustee practices and all political actors to oppose the trustee politics without any buts or buts."

WAN

Wan branch of the Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions (DISK) Emekli-Sen Wan (Van) Branch made a statement against the trustee appointments and against the attempts to appoint a trustee to replace Wan Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Abdullah Zeydan.

'RESPECT THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE'

Emekli-Sen Wan Branch Chair Timur Sayyiğit stated that the practices against Co-mayor Abdullah Zeydan are unlawful. Sayyiğit demanded respect for the people's choice and said: "If you do not accept the will of the Kurdish people and their supporters, then do not spend so much money and set up ballot boxes with the money of this poor people. This mistake must be reversed immediately. If we want peace in our own country, you should give up this method."
